The hours melted into one another, and the hospital room was enveloped in a soft glow from the lone lamp that illuminated Adrian's bed. Elisa sat vigil, while Sasha’s heart danced between hope and despair.
She glanced over at her sister again, who had fallen into a fitful sleep now , her head resting on the edge of Adrian’s bed, fingers entwined with his.
Sasha stood up quietly, deciding to step out for a breath of fresh air. The bustling hospital corridor seemed far removed from the world she had just left.
As she stared into the vastness above, a figure emerged from the shadows, interrupting her reverie. It was a tall man with tousled dark hair and an earnest expression. He wore a university hoodie, and his eyes held a depth of understanding that pulled her in.
“Are you Sasha?” he asked, his voice low and steady.
Taken aback, she nodded. “Yes, I am. And you are?”
“I’m Ethan, a friend of Adrian’s. I heard about the accident and came as soon as I could.” He stepped closer, concern etched on his face. “How’s he doing?”
Sasha’s heart raced. “He’s… he’s still unconscious. The doctors say he’s stable, but it could take months for him to wake up.” She felt a lump in her throat. “It’s all so surreal.”
Ethan nodded, his expression sympathetic. “I can’t imagine what you’re going through. Adrian has been a good friend and an inspiration to many of us. He’s got this passion for astrophysics that’s contagious.”
Sasha felt a flicker of curiosity. “You’re studying with him?”
“For the last two years,” Ethan replied, a hint of pride in his voice. “He’s brilliant. Always dreaming big, talking about the stars like they were his closest friends. I just wish I could have been there for him when it happened.”
A brief silence fell between them, filled only by the distant hum of the hospital. Sasha found herself drawn to Ethan, sensing a kinship in their shared concern for Adrian. “He has dreams,” she said softly, “and I can’t help but wonder what they are right now. If he’s dreaming at all.”
Ethan’s gaze turned to the stars above, mirroring her thoughts. “He often spoke about a project he was working on—something to do with black holes and the mysteries of the universe. He believed that understanding the cosmos could help us understand ourselves.”
Sasha’s heart swelled with admiration for Adrian. “He sounds incredible. I wish I could talk to him about his dreams. Maybe they’re still alive in there.” She gestured toward the hospital.
“Maybe they are,” Ethan said, a spark of hope igniting in his voice. “We should keep talking about him, share stories. It might help him find his way back.”
As Sasha considered his words, she felt an unexpected sense of camaraderie. “Yes, let’s do that. We can be his cheerleaders while he’s fighting this battle.”
Ethan smiled, a warmth spreading between them. “I’ll come back tomorrow. We can brainstorm ways to reach him, to remind him of who he is.”
Sasha smiled at him. Ethan nodded and said ."I visited him and I met your sister. She was in chaos , filled with guilt maybe we should go and check on her now."
Sasha said while walking towards Adrian’s room,"I kept comforting her but her tears and guilt is not leaving her and when I just read stories and patted her ,she just slept. Maybe I should be by her and Adrian’s side until they are emotionally and physically okay. Pause...
"Ethan will you help me in this process of recovering Adrian and Elisha and making them happy again ."
Ethan said ,"Yes let's fight and win this together."
